Jersey firefighters battle St Helier blaze

More than 20 firefighters tackled a fire in the centre of St Helier.

Several houses were evacuated after the alarm was raised in Devonshire Place at about 16:00 BST on Saturday.

At one point a roof window exploded and narrowly missed fire crews and people nearby. One person was treated in hospital for minor burns.

The fire service said a smoke alarm warned a family of the fire, which started in an upstairs bedroom, giving them time to escape.
