Babies born in Jersey on the same day as the newest member of the Royal Family are being given £100 notes by the island's government.

The son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was born at 16:24 BST on Monday but has not yet been named.

A health department spokesman said three babies girls were born on the same day.

The £100 notes, which show the first official holographic portrait of the Queen, were released last year.

The specially-framed notes have been organised by the Treasury and Resources and Health and Social Services departments.

Deputy Anne Pryke, Health and Social Services Minister, said: "The royal birth is a very special event for every territory which has the Queen as head of state, including Jersey.

"I think it's appropriate that we mark the occasion by making a gift like this."

Senator Philip Ozouf, Treasury and Resources Minister, said: "We hope the engraved framed notes will mark the special day for the children for years to come."
