Jersey constable concerned at St Helier parking closure

There should be an investigation into the circumstances that led to a car park being closed to the public, according to the Constable of St Helier.

Simon Crowcroft said he was concerned about the loss of 30 spaces when the small parking area in Hue Street closes on Monday and becomes used by a shop.

Transport Minister Deputy Kevin Lewis said the land was leased to the States.

He said it was a shame to lose the spaces but it was out of his hands.

The car park will be used by town shop Romerills for its own customer parking.

Constable Crowcroft said he was worried about the impact it would have on retailers in town.

He said: "The loss of these space will have an impact on the town, I welcome the investment the owners have done on their nearby building, the loss of the parking for shoppers will have an impact."
