Joint Channel Islands police 'needs political union'
Political union with Guernsey would be needed before a joint police force could be considered, Jersey's home affairs minister has said.
Senator Ian Le Marquand said more joint working would increase the effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement in the islands.
A joint police force was mentioned by Jersey's chief minister Senator Ian Gorst last week.
Senator Le Marquand said such a merger could only follow more political unity.
He said any move towards that would need to start with a "healthy political debate".
The islands' police already work together in some areas including recruit training, which they have shared since 2011.
