Jersey Police Station plan prompts concerns from staff

Jersey police staff have raised several concerns over the building of a new island police headquarters, according to the force's deputy chief officer.

Barry Taylor said officers had brought up issues regarding the provision of staff parking and safety at the site of Green Street Car Park in St Helier.

He said: "We're concerned... largely with the capabilities of the building."

He said any issues would be dealt with and rectified in the next stage of the building's development.

The deputy chief officer said: "We're actually probably further ahead in our internal planning process than we may necessarily need to be.

"We've been able to share a greater level of detail with our staff than would normally be the case.

"I think that's where some of these issues have cropped up."

Plans for the new police station will be debated some time in 2013.

Politicians voted to delay a decision on the site so a scrutiny panel could look at the plans in more detail.
