Pontoon may return to Jersey's Bouley Bay

A pontoon removed from Jersey's Bouley Bay may return in 2013 due to support from business owners in the area.

There were concerns over its future as the group that originally championed its purchase in 2004 has since disbanded.

The Port of Jersey has agreed to return the pontoon in the spring and maintain the mooring chains for two years.

It is on the condition that the group of business owners ensures public liability insurance is in place.

'Way forward'

The businessmen are in the process of forming an association to take over ownership of the pontoon and its future maintenance.

Ray Hine, from Ports of Jersey, said: "We have always been supportive of the pontoon and appreciate the pleasure it brings to visitors and residents as well as the benefits to local businesses.

"Once a new association has been established we will meet with its members and find a future way forward that is of benefit to everyone."

Mark Neal, manager of the Water's Edge Hotel, said: "We are grateful to the Port of Jersey for all their help over the years in helping to maintain the moorings and look forward to working with them in the future."
