Jersey Bailiff Sir Michael Birt awarded knighthood

Jersey's bailiff Sir Michael Birt has been knighted by the Queen in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Sir Michael was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours in June for services to the crown and Jersey's community.

Michael Birt took up the role in 2009 and is the 88th Bailiff of Jersey, in which role he is both head of the legal system and president of the States.
