Sir Jimmy Savile investigated during Jersey abuse inquiry

It has emerged the States of Jersey police investigated Sir Jimmy Savile as part of the island's historical child abuse inquiry.

The Leeds-born DJ had been accused of indecent assault at the Haut de la Garenne children's home. The allegations dated back to the 1970s.

However, police said there was insufficient evidence for the investigation to proceed.

Sir Jimmy died last year aged 84, and was never charged with any abuse offences.
