Jersey Live music festival police say drunkenness down

Jersey Live has introduced new rules bringing in into line with major UK festivals

Levels of drunkenness at the Jersey Live music festival are "way down" on the 2011 event, say police.

The annual festival at the Royal Jersey Showground attracted about 8,500 fans from the island and overseas.

Police said there had been a "handful of arrests" for minor public order offences and "very minor possessions" of controlled substances.

Organisers said they had introduced stricter rules for those going to the two-day festival.

The changes brought the festival into line with major UK festivals such as such as Glastonbury, Bestival and Reading.

'More positive'

Anyone under 16 has to be accompanied by an adult and people aged 18 and over need need to prove they are old enough to accompany a youngster.

Ch Insp John Sculthorpe said: "It was very well natured and thankfully not too much trouble."

He said organisers had worked with police to improve the event, including providing a welfare tent staffed by youth service professionals.

He said: "The vibe and atmosphere is much better than 2011.

"It's a much more positive event."
