Jersey Folklore festival will have strong island links

Van Morrison has been confirmed as the Saturday night headliner

The latest music festival in Jersey will include fresh fish from local waters, ale brewed in the island and home grown musical talent.

That is on top of acts like Van Morrison, Ray Davies and rockabilly star Wanda Jackson.

The Folklore festival is in its first year and will take place on People's Park in St Helier in a series of large tents, including a giant big top.

All the food at the festival will be created by local chefs, with the main catering tent run by Andy Taylor from Cafe Louise in Gorey.

Mr Taylor said he would be preparing a range of food styles for both meat eaters and vegetarians including Thai, Indian and Italian food.

Baking to AC/DC

For people paying a little more for their tickets, food in hospitality is being provided by Danny's of Gorey and St Aubin.

Something of a music buff, restaurateur Danny Moisan said: "I guarantee you can't bake bread to pop music.

"AC/DC is the best baking music, Dylan for morning prep, and blues for lunch service. A bit of Vivaldi works a treat for the clean down too."

There will be two main stages at the festival, INCLUDING a giant big top featuring what organisers describe as "musical legends of the past, present and future".

Acts include former Kinks frontman Ray Davies, Van Morrison, Joan Armatrading, Finley Quaye and more.

Warren Le Sueur, festival director, said: "To have been given the opportunity to host one of the best known English-born rock stars and a former founder member of the Kinks will be a special moment indeed for both ourselves and the Island."

Agapanthus Stage

The festival's second stage is called the Agapanthus stage, taking its name from a series of events hosted by the Jersey Arts Trust in 2011.

Arts Trust Director, Tom Dingle, said: "We're delighted to be associated with this exciting new festival, which is committed not only to bringing world-class performers to our shores but also showcasing and supporting our home-grown artists."

The stage will be launched by BBC Radio Jersey's new music show BBC Introducing in Jersey featuring live sessions from some of the acts performing.

Food and drink at the festival will be provided by local companies

It will then play host to a selection of local musical talent including an act performing pop-folk songs written in Jersey's native language, Jerriais.

It will be headlined by punk-poet John Cooper Clarke on each day and will also see comedian Edward Aczel and comedic character John Shuttleworth perform.

The festival will also be raising money for a charity that helps support families in Jersey.

Brighter Futures helps build stronger families and communities offering programmes around self awareness and self management for parents and children.
