A new overture commissioned for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be performed in Jersey.

Musicians from across the island will perform L'Ouvèrtuthe dé Dgiamant, written by former army music chief Lt Col Geoff Kingston, on 4 June.

The song will feature in the Diamond Jubilee Gala Concert at Fort Regent.

Jersey singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot will also perform at the concern that will feature bands and singers from the island.

The Jersey Pipe Band, St Cecilia Orchestra and the Musical Originals Singers will join other massed bands and choirs to celebrate the Jubilee through music.

Integral part

The Diamond Overture will be performed by La Ronde Concert Band, Jersey Premier Brass and members of the instrumental service wind band.

Conductor Robert Wareing-Jones said the premiere would form an integral part of the island's celebrations.

The Dgiamant Overture has been commissioned by La Ronde Concert Band of Jersey to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

It is a short musical journey through the fascinating and complex history of the island and includes elements of Ma Normandie, French folk tunes and Gerard Le Feuvre's Island Home.

He said: "I am delighted that my musical director colleagues Tim Pritchard of Jersey Premier Brass and Allan Jones from Jersey Instrumental Services have agreed to support this event.

"In total there should be at least 75 musicians who together will perform Geoff Kingston's composition to a packed house in Fort Regent."
