Jersey Senator Alan Breckon is charged with assault

A Jersey politician has appeared in the Magistrates' Court charged with grave and criminal assault.

Senator Alan Breckon, 59, is alleged to have assaulted Suzette Haze on 31 March 2011 at a house in St Brelade.

Ms Haze worked with Senator Breckon on the Jersey Consumer Council when he was chairman of the body.

The politician, who has an island-wide mandate, has been released on bail until his next court appearance on 22 June.

The senator is also a member of the Legislation Advisory Panel, which looks at law and court procedures.
