Mike Tyson event cancelled: Ticket refund inquiry starts

Mike Tyson Mike Tyson was due to speak at the Hotel de France as part of his UK tour

Jersey trading standards will investigate why some islanders have not been given a refund after a Mike Tyson appearance was cancelled.

Chief Officer Trevor Le Roux said a number of people had reported problems getting their money back from the company.

He said the terms of agreement had been broken so they were entitled to a refund.

The promoters have not responded to attempts by BBC News to contact them.

The boxer was due to appear at the Hotel de France in April but it was pulled at the last minute.

Out of pocket

The organisers of the event, worldcelebrityboxing.com, did not cancel any of the UK dates on the same tour, just the one in Jersey.

Mr Le Roux said he was concerned and would do all he could to help people out of pocket.

He said: "The best advice would be, if you paid by credit card... to try and make a claim against the credit card company.

"It is unfortunate that it seems at this stage a refund is becoming very difficult to obtain."

Mr Le Roux said anyone with a physical ticket should write to the company claiming a refund, in case it was needed in the future.

He added it could be difficult for people based in Jersey to take a UK company to the small claims court.
