Jersey campanologists welcome Olympic bell ringing

Help

A group of Jersey campanologists believe an idea by artist Martin Creed to have people around the British Isles ring bells on the first day of the Olympics will help them recruit new members.

The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers in the UK said plans to ring bells ahead of the Games' opening were misconceived.

Some have described the idea as like trying to get a philharmonic orchestra to whistle in the street.

Mr Creed wants as many people as possible to ring a bell for three minutes at 08:00 BST on 27 July 2012 to mark the start of the London Olympics.

It is just one work of art that has been planned to make the 2012 Olympics a cultural as well as a sporting event.
