About 15% of Jersey retired residents are still working

About one in six people of retirement age in Jersey are still working, according to the latest census.

The States of Jersey statistics unit have released more details about employment in the island gathered as part of the 2011 census.

It showed that 82% of islanders of working age had a job or were at least looking for one.

Of those not working a third were in full-time education and a fifth unable to work because of disability.

The census also showed that more than three-quarters of women of working age in Jersey either had a job or were looking for one.

It also found that 44% of working-age women who did not have a job said they looked after the home, compared with 3% of men.
