Tributes have been paid to a former head of the Jersey Bankers Association who has died at the age of 64.

Hans Baerlocher, who was also chief executive of UBS in Jersey, died on Tuesday following a short illness.

He had recently taken over the group that helps Jersey students join the finance industry.

Speaking at a briefing for the finance industry, Jonathan White, the Chairman of Jersey Finance Limited, described him as a remarkable man.

'Colourful character'

The board of Jersey Finance has also paid tribute.

In a statement sent to its members on Friday, it said: "Hans was a colourful character who made a hugely valuable contribution to Jersey and the businesses and organisations he was involved with.

"As a former head of UBS locally, President of the Jersey Bankers Association, and board member of Jersey Finance, he contributed enormously over the years and was a major supporter of education in Jersey - particularly the good work done at Highlands College.

"There's no doubt that all involved in the finance industry will miss him very much."
