Jersey musicians at BBC Introducing masterclass 2012
The BBC Introducing musicians masterclass takes place at Abbey Road and Maida Vale studios
Three Jersey musicians had the chance to learn from the experience of music industry insiders at the 2012 BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclass.
Sam Falle, Sam Mezek and Cameron Johnson attended the event at Abbey Road and Maida Vale Studios in London.
Presentations and workshops were delivered by the likes of Jamie Cullum, Trent Reznor and Frank Turner.
The second BBC Introducing Masterclass event took place on 19 January which more than 200 musicians attended.
Sam Mezek said learning to collaborate was one of the most important things he took from the event
Guitarist, singer and songwriter with band Salem's Lot, Sam Mezek, said one of the most important things he has taken away from the masterclass was the need for collaboration.
He said: "I have tried to write a lot of songs myself but have realised lately that my songs are nothing without the guy who records my songs for me making them sound good."
He added that the masterclass was important because it was a chance to learn from people working in music and the way the industry is evolving.
Cameron Johnson, an MC who performs as U.G said he was stunned walking into Abbey Road because "it is legendary ground, it is a lot bigger than I thought, it is massive".
He said one of the most important things he learnt at the event was what was needed to take things to the next level.
At an industry question time session BBC music boss George Ergatoudis said YouTube was the second most important place for music after Radio 1
"The transition from the underground to popular music is a lot smaller than people think it is.
"It is more of a choice of what you want to do as an artist and whether you want to go there and do what is needed to be in the popular market," he said.
Sam Falle, formerly of Quick and the Dead said that the event was "awesome" and "really refreshing to meet musicians playing in different styles."
He said: "Events like this are vital, it is going to improve artists awareness of how much you need to do and the routes you need to go down.
"The music industry is changing so quickly and is so difficult to pin down what to do but discussions like these help artists to pin down what to do."
You can see videos from all the sessions that took place on the BBC Introducing website.
