An off-duty fireman's quick action could have saved the life of a driver after two cars crashed in Jersey.

One of the drivers was unconscious after the incident on La Route De St Aubin on Sunday.

The unnamed fireman, who lives nearby, cared for the driver until paramedics arrived and prevented a more serious injury or fatality, said fire chiefs.

The driver is now being treated in hospital. The other driver suffered minor injuries.

Crew manager Craig Channing said: "Thankfully, the quick actions of the first person in attendance prevented a more serious injury or fatality from occurring for one of the drivers."
