Friends and family of a man from Jersey who died during a charity bike ride are taking part in a cycling challenge in his memory.

The team of 14 are flying to Cork on Saturday for Cycle Ireland in memory of John Lyons.

He was killed in 2009 whilst on a Jersey Hospice fundraising trip in Ecuador.

The Cycle Ireland challenge involves three days of cycling around south-west Ireland.

It finishes in the town of Sixmilebridge, where John was born, and a party of friends and family will welcome the team to the finish line.

John's wife Judy, son Elliot and sister Bernie are all taking part, as is one of John's friend's Sylvana Rice, also took part in the Jersey Hospice Care fundraising cycle in Ecuador.

She said: "This is a fantastic tribute to a man who was most deserving of it, he worked tirelessly for the Hospice movement and it is a privilege to be taking part."
