Tributes have been paid to a "lively character" who was killed in a crash in the Isle of Man.

Brad Campbell, 17, was a passenger in a Renault Clio that crashed in Foxdale Road, near the Archallagan Plantation, on Saturday.

Mr Campbell had recently left Ballakermeen High School to pursue a trade and started playing for the senior Union Mills football team.

A Ballakermeen spokeswoman said the school was "desperately saddened."

She said: "Brad was a lively character, well-liked by his peers and teachers. He was a keen sportsman and was a member of Union Mills Football Club.

"His tutor remembers him as a popular young man who always had a smile on his face.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Brad's family at this time."

'Memory alive'

Mr Campbell's former football coach at Union Mills said he was a "promising young player".

He added: "It has hit everyone at the club hard and everyone is upset but we are rallying together and thinking about how best to keep his memory alive".

The seventeen-year-old, from Onchan, was one of four people in the car.

Police said one passenger was still in the Intensive Treatment Unit at Noble's hospital and a second had been released.

Insp Derek Flint said the driver had been bailed after he was released from hospital into police custody.
