Isle of Man police have launched an appeal for information after a 19-year-old man received "serious injuries" in an assault in Douglas.

The attack, which is believed to have involved several men, happened near the Palace Hotel on Douglas promenade at about 01:00 BST on Sunday.

A police spokesman said the 19-year-old had gone to the aid of a friend and suffered facial injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police headquarters in Douglas.

Police said the teenager was taken to Noble's Hospital for treatment to injuries including "multiple fractures".
