Douglas Council leader receives MBE from the Queen

David Christian received MBE from the Queen The Queen presented Mr Christian with his MBE at Buckingham Palace

The leader of Douglas Borough Council, David Christian, has been presented with his MBE from the Queen.

Mr Christian received the honour at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his services to local government and the community of Douglas.

He said: "It was a very proud day and an occasion I will never forget." He added: I was honoured to be representing the Isle of Man."

The 49-year-old has been in local government for 26 years.

He has led Douglas Council since 2001.

He added: "It was a fantastic day and among the 90-odd people was author Jackie Collins receiving her OBE.

"Being awarded the MBE is tribute to the tremendous support I've had from my family, friends and council colleagues."
