Tynwald will be asked to approve multi-million pound plans for a school revamp in the capital of the Isle of Man.

An increase in sixth-form student numbers has prompted the request for £3.2m to build an extension at Ballakermeen High School in Douglas.

It is hoped the scheme, due to be completed by October 2014, will provide more classrooms, a larger dining room and extra tutorial space.

The school improvement proposals will be presented to Tynwald on 18 June.

Ballakermeen is one of two high schools in Douglas and currently has about 1,500 pupils.
