Isle of Man residents warned of 'cowboy' traders
The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has warned residents about "cowboy builders" operating on the island.
The organisation said people were still falling victim to builders calling at house doors offering to do work.
It is thought people accept because of cheaper prices and availability.
An OFT spokesman said: "Many cowboy builders who cold-call carry out poor quality work and any guarantees provided are likely to be worthless."
He added: "They will often pester householders into having unnecessary work done and have even been known to take their victims to the bank to secure payment.
"The likelihood of them returning to put work right is minimal unless they think that they can con more money out of their victims- it is often the elderly or the vulnerable who are targeted."
