Isle of Man to Monaco by kayak: Chris Allix arrives
The kayaker has lost six stone and raised thousands of pounds for several charities
A 60-year-old man from the Isle of Man has completed a 2,000-mile journey to Monaco by kayak, after being told to lose weight by a doctor.
Chris Allix was greeted by Prince Albert of Monaco after finishing his 85 day journey at the Monaco Yacht Show.
"I knew I would arrive with a splash but it turned out more of a tidal wave," Mr Allix said.
The company director is now six stone (38kg) lighter than when he began his journey on 26 June.
Mr Allix spent 12 months training with kayaking expert Keirron Tastagh before starting his challenge.
Mr Tastagh said: "It is incredible what he has achieved. I have never met anyone more determined to succeed."
Mr Allix's journey took him from the Isle of Man to Whitehaven in Cumbria, before he navigated his way through England's rivers and canals.
He then continued all the way through France to Monaco.
He said: "I had mixed emotions finishing the journey and it will be strange not getting back in the kayak tomorrow but I think my partner will be relieved.
"It really has been an epic journey and one that I will never forget."
He has raised thousands of pounds for five charities - the Isle of Man-based Sailing for the Disabled, Namaste Children's House in Nepal, the ICM Charitable Trust, the Outward Bound Trust in Monaco and the UK-based Encompass Trust.
