London 2012: British cyclists receive IOM stamp honour

The stamps have been designed by English fashion designer Sir Paul Smith

Great Britain's gold medal winning men's team pursuit cyclists are to be recognised in a limited edition stamp cover by the Isle of Man Post Office.

Manx cyclist Peter Kennaugh, Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas and Steven Burke set a new world record time to beat Australia and claim gold in London.

Isle of Man Post said it marked the cyclists' "outstanding achievement."

Kennaugh's win came 100 years on from the Isle of Man's last Olympic gold medal won by Sidney Swann in 1912.

Before the games the Manx cyclist said the "Olympics would not mean anything unless he wins a gold medal".

All four cyclists also had postboxes painted gold in their home towns.

The gold medal winners' sheet features the cycling stamps of the Isle of Man Post Office's London 2012 Olympic Games stamp issue, designed by world-renowned fashion designer Sir Paul Smith, along with images of Kennaugh and his team mates competing in the London velodrome.

Just 2012 numbered sheets will be printed.
