Doctor arrested in Isle of Man leaves his Peel practice

A doctor has left the practice where he was a partner after being questioned by police in the Isle of Man.

The Department of Health said Dr Damian Smith was no longer a partner at The Peel Group practice in Peel.

The department said it wanted to reassure patients that "their healthcare remains a priority".

The Isle of Man Constabulary said he had been questioned and released on bail, but it would not comment on what he was arrested over.

Det Sgt Cathryn Bradley, of the criminal investigation department, said: "Information was brought to police that has resulted in an investigation into a doctor.

"The investigation does not relate to the doctor's medical competence to practice, nor does it relate to any of his patients or staff.

"Once enquiries are completed, a file will be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for a decision to be made."

The Department of Health said: "The Peel Group practice would like to announce with immediate effect that Dr Damian Smith is no longer a partner with the practice.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this change but would like to reassure all his patients that they are registered at the Peel surgery and that their healthcare remains a priority to us."
