A Guernsey pre-school which was due to close because of a lack of funding will continue to operate from September, the Education Department says.

Daisy Chain Pre-School has been at Styx Western Parish Community Centre, taking in children aged between two and five.

It had faced closing this week due to a lack of long-term funding.

It will receive support from the education and social security departments, although the service will move to La Houguette Primary School.

The pre-school, which has been offering places to more than 30 children, is moving after having been based at the community centre for eight years.

The Education Department said it was moving because "we had space at La Houguette which we have been able to offer them at no charge".

The announcement comes after politicians agreed to plans to introduce free universal pre-school education for Guernsey and Alderney.
