A community centre in Guernsey reported a £44,735 surplus in its first year.

The St Saviour's community centre opened in June 2013 and managers said the surplus was partly due to groups committing to use the facility.

Centre trustee, Margeret Macdonald, said they had been able to repay £30,000 worth of loans to "centre friends" leaving them debt free.

Centre managing director, Philip Duquemin, said they now had cash reserves of more than £51,000.

He said the money would be used to help with the continued refurbishment of the premises.
