Police have released CCTV footage of a Devon jewellery store owner tackling armed robbers.

Two men wearing hooded tops and disposable overalls entered House of Diamonds in Paignton and are then seen scuffling with Alan Boydell.

Witnesses detained one suspect but two escaped in a white Peugeot with jewellery worth £7,000, say police.

Det Sgt Sam Smoothy, of Devon and Cornwall Police, is keen to track down the two remaining suspects.

Jeweller Alan Boydell said he had been overwhelmed by the response from the public

"We hope that in releasing the images someone somewhere will recognise the suspects from their general appearance, gait and mannerisms."

Mr Boydell said he had been "overwhelmed" by the community's response to the incident.

"The public couldn't have done anymore," he said.

"The wishes and thoughts of the traders, local public and churches has been astronomical. In a way it's brought the local area together."

A 21-year-old man, from Torquay, has been charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
