Norma Paris wins Alderney States by-election

Norma Paris has won a by-election in Alderney for the seat made vacant by the death of a States member.

Paul Arditti, 62, died in January having served in the States since leaving the legal profession in 2010.

Ms Paris will serve the remaining eight months of Mr Arditti's four-year term after polling 394 votes.

About 630 ballot papers were issued for the election on Saturday. Fellow candidate Anthony Barnes won 113 votes and Lin Maurice 118.

There were 10 spoilt papers.

Election monitors said the poll had a 55% turnout.
