The first Alderney restaurants to be rated in public for food hygiene have all been highly recommended.

Under the scheme, launched by Guernsey's Environmental Health last month, premises that handle food put their ratings on their front doors.

Of the 16 food outlets rated in Alderney nine were given the highest mark of five stars and the other six got four stars.

Ratings for the remaining outlets will be decided during routine inspections.

A total of 126 premises have been inspected and rated since the scheme began and 293 more places are due to be included in the system.
