Guernsey parking times increased for Christmas shoppers

The amount of time cars can be parked in short-term spaces has been increased in a bid to encourage more people into St Peter Port.

A spokesman for Guernsey's Environment Department said it followed a request from the Town Centre Partnership "to encourage footfall" ahead of Christmas.

The 105 two-hour spaces on the Crown Pier will become three-hour spaces from 23 November until the end of the year.

The 10-hour spaces for cars under 3.6m (12ft) in length will not change.

The department did introduce some parking time changes last year but the spokesman said it had "sought to simplify things" by keeping the changes to just one location this year.

He added that the department wanted feedback from businesses and shoppers about the scheme and whether it should continue in the run-up to Christmas in the future.
