Guernsey parishes agree to kerbside recycling scheme

All 10 of Guernsey's parishes have agreed to the introduction of kerbside recycling following several months of negotiations, according to the States.

This means an island-wide scheme could be launched as early as January 2014.

Following consultation with the douzaines, the Public Services Department has announced plans for the service, which will involve the existing parish bin contractors.

Public Services say this will be a trial initially to test services.

At the start collections will take most of what is currently accepted at current recycling sites except glass.

The £1m scheme will be free to householders, as it will be funded through the States Waste Strategy.
