Guernsey's Sea Fisheries has impounded a Dumfries-registered fishing boat on suspicion of fishing within the island's 12 nautical mile limit.

A spokesperson for the Commerce and Employment Department confirmed the Scottish vessel had been seized, pending a court hearing.

The Isla-S - a 40m (131ft) scallop dredger - was escorted into St Peter Port harbour by the Leopardess.

Vessel owner Saltire Seafoods was unavailable for comment.

Sea Fisheries said it would not give more details until after the hearing.

A new licensing regime came into effect in February to control fishing around the Bailiwick's waters.
