Guernsey's Fort Road closed by electricity cable fault

Guernsey's main southern commuter route into St Peter Port has been closed "until further notice", because of a high voltage cable fault.

A spokesman for Guernsey Electricity said it could not say how long repairs would take until engineers had dug a trench and investigated further.

However, he said an "optimistic" view would be that the road might open on Monday morning.

The closure stretches from Le Val Des Terres to the Morley Chapel.

Bus routes affected

Guernsey Police said traffic heading out of town was being diverted via Colborne Road, Ruettes Brayes and Les Frieteaux.

Traffic going west was being diverted along the reverse route or via Rue Maze and Les Merriennes.

The island's bus operator, CT Plus, said the closure would affect bus routes 5S, 5AS, 6S, 6AS, 7 and 7A.

Guernsey Electricity apologised for any inconvenience caused.
