A residential development may be built as part of a planned £10m redevelopment of a Guernsey health club.

Plans submitted to the States of Guernsey outlined new sports facilities for St Peter Port's Kings Club as well as a "high end" residential scheme.

If approved, the club said its two tennis courts would be refurbished and brought under cover.

Work is expected to begin in late 2013, with completion scheduled for 2015, pending approval by the States.

A letter sent to club members explained that Kings had played an important part in island life since its beginnings in 1857.

The developers hope to raise £5m for the scheme from the sale of apartments.
