Guernsey girl's crash death 'a tragic accident'

A seven-year-old girl who died after being hit by a quad bike in Guernsey was a victim of a "purely tragic accident", an inquest heard.

Mai-Lea Falla, a pupil at Vale Junior School, was injured in Summerfield Road just after 18:00 GMT on 29 November.

Mai-Lea, who was carol singing with a friend at the time, had been visiting a house in Summerfield Road where there is no pavement.

The inquest into her death has been adjourned.

A sewage cart driver told the inquest he saw the girls as he passed by and as he was checking his rear view mirror he saw Mai-Lea run out from behind his lorry into the path of the quad bike.

Guernsey Police said it had spoken to the quad bike rider who has been in hospital since the collision.

Sgt John Tostevin, who is leading the investigation, said as a result of this conversation and other factors they were treating it as a "purely tragic accident".

He said he did not believe the rider of the quad bike had a chance to see Mai-Lea.
