Nominations have opened for the election of a new president of the States of Alderney.

The current president, Stuart Trought, has been in office for 16 months, after his predecessor, Sir Norman Browse, retired.

Nominations need to be sent to the chief executive of the States of Alderney by 23 October.

To be eligible, candidates have to be over 21 and have lived in Alderney for at least 18 months.

Mr Trought is completing the remainder of the Sir Norman's term of office, which finishes in December.

The president chairs the monthly meetings of the island's 10 elected States members and has a casting vote in the event of a tie.
