St Martin wins international Bloom award

A parish in Guernsey has won an international award for protecting and embellishing its green spaces.

St Martin won the International Challenge Small Category award at the Communities in Bloom competition held in Edmonton, Canada.

The parish beat competitors from Japan, the Czech Republic and the US to win the title.

The judges said the parish had used "ingenious floral poles" to create an "explosion of colour" in the parish.

Judges Lorna McIlroy and Diana Weiner added: "This small community is sparkling and beautiful."
