Volunteers are being sought to help with the Guernsey leg of the Olympic torch relay.

The flame is due to visit the island on 15 July in the run up to the 2012 London Olympics.

The event organisers, the Guernsey Sports Commission, said they were looking for between 100 and 150 people to help steward the crowds.

They expect a crowd of 15,000 to spread along the St Peter Port seafront for the relay and day of celebrations.

Organisers said the volunteers needed to be at least 18 years old with good interpersonal skills to work with the crowds, needed to be free for an hour's briefing session before the event and for a four and a half hour shift on the day.

They are also looking for qualified first aiders.

The relay itself is due to be followed by a family day, with many of the island's sports getting involved.

Eleven of the 20 torch bearers have already been named.
