Guernsey overseas aid increase is defeated

A move to increase the amount Guernsey spends in overseas aid has been defeated in the States.

Deputy Mike Hadley suggested the island assigns an extra £250,000 to overseas aid during 2012.

His motion to divert funds from the Policy Council budget was defeated by 26 votes to 19.

The States agreed to maintain its current level of contribution, £2.5m in 2011, with annual increases.
