Guernsey improved accountability calls 'hot and sexy'

Improving accountability in the States of Guernsey will be "a hot and sexy topic" in the new term, according to a committee chairman.

Deputy Leon Gallienne, chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, said a report put forward by a joint working party would pave the way for reform.

It suggested more than 50 ways accountability could be defined for States departments and positions.

Deputies will be asked to approve the report in March.

Deputy Leon Gallienne said: "In this report you'll see about the role of the chief minister, the deputy [chief] minister, maybe that we've got too many departments, constitutional issues - these are all going to be debated and talked about."
