The Spirit of Guernsey has returned to service in the island after undergoing a major refit in Poole.

The vessel arrived back in St Peter Port Harbour at midday on Sunday and was ready to respond to emergencies within two hours.

The lifeboat has been in Poole since 26 October, but its return was delayed by bad weather.

The work included upgrades to the electrical and engine management systems and a new paint job.

It was the boat's second refit since it arrived in the island in 1997.

The relief lifeboat, the Roger and Joy Freeman, has returned to the UK.
