A Guernsey festival has been short-listed in the Best New Festival Category by the UK Festival Awards.

The Guernsey Festival of Performing Arts was chosen after being assessed by a judging panel made up of journalists and industry reviewers.

The panel attended the inaugural event in July and looked at its line-up, staffing, catering, value for money and what is available besides the music.

The winners are due to be announced on 15 November.

This year's headline act Primal Scream also performed at Camp Bestival, which won the award four years ago and is now a well-established family festival.

The organisers of the event, held at the Rabbit Warren, believe it has the potential to grow to the same level as the previous winners of the national award.

They have already announced dates for the 2012 festival.
