A woman who was found dead in a St Peter Port flat has been named.

Liga Verse, 24, a Latvian national, had been living in Guernsey for a number of years.

Guernsey Police have been treating the death as unexplained, and are now regarding it as "suspicious".

A man aged 27 is being questioned. Officers appealed for any information on Miss Verse's movements particularly on the evening of 18 August.

It is believed she visited a restaurant on the island, and police want to establish which one.

Speaking earlier in the week, Det Insp Phil Breban of the Guernsey Police said the force had been helped by a Home Office pathologist and forensic support staff from Devon and Cornwall Police.

He said there was a significant amount of discussion on social networking sites and asked the public to be responsible in their use of such sites.
