Irish woman dies after yacht overturns off South Africa coast

An Irish woman has died after the yacht she was travelling on overturned off the coast of South Africa.

Irish state broadcaster RTÉ reports that the woman, 49, had been living in the country's Western Cape province.

A 61-year-old Scottish man also died in the incident.

South African rescue crews found the vessel broken up on rocks on the coast after the alarm was raised by a 66-year-old Irish man who had managed to get to shore.

The Irish man was not injured in the incident.

It is understood there were only three people on the yacht, which was reportedly sailing from Langebaan to Cape Town.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is providing consular assistance following the incident.
