Two nuns die in County Kerry swimming tragedy

Two women have died after getting into difficulties while swimming in the sea at County Kerry in the Republic of Ireland on Thursday evening.

A lifeguard about to go off duty at Inch Strand called emergency services after spotting the women in trouble in shallow water.

Following the rescue, the condition of the women, understood to be nuns in their 60s and 70s, was critical.

They were airlifted to hospital in Tralee where they were pronounced dead.
