One dead, seven hurt in Carlow crash

A 42-year-old man has died and seven other people have been injured in a two-vehicle crash in County Carlow in the Republic of Ireland.

It happened at about 17:00 local time on Saturday on the Old Bagnelstown to Carlow Road in Ballybannon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two injured men were air-lifted to Waterford University Hospital and five others were taken to Saint Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny.

Three remain in a serious condition.

The road, which was closed for a forensic examination, has now reopened to traffic.

The men who were air-lifted to Waterford are 33 and 36.

Those taken to hospital in Kilkenny include a 12-year-old boy, a 33-year-old man, and three women aged 46, 50 and 80.
