8 August 2014 Last updated at 06:56 BST

Turkey will hold a presidential election on Sunday - the first time in the country's history that the position will be chosen, not by parliament, but by the Turkish public.

Leading the race is the current Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, an Islamist-rooted politician who has divided the population.

Mark Lowen reports from Istanbul.
